One home learning per half-term either will be a key formal assessment or will be linked to a key assessment that will happen in lesson time. It can be used as a starter task to clarify understanding, knowledge and/or recall skills. Home learning set during each half term will be marked in a variety of ways including peer assessment, self-assessment, automatically online, verbal checking in class, and teacher assessment. The size, duration and assessment remain flexible and specific to the subject and teacher. Teachers should expect students to complete all home learning and home learning should support the learning in the subject, this may include regular revision tasks i.e. Core subjects (with more lessons per timetable cycle) will set a home learning twice per fortnight whilst other subjects will set home learning once every three lessons allowing for missed lessons due to extra-curricular activities. This could include, but is not limited to, memory and recall tasks, extended writing tasks, practice questions, research tasks and the learning of key information.ĭuring Year 7 -11, home learning will be set regularly and aligned to the subject knowledge or study skill being developed within the subject. It is the responsibility of the subject teacher to set quality home learning for which students are able to see the purpose and can identify how it contributes to their learning. Enable students to understand how subjects interrelate.Support formal assessment opportunities that occur in lessons.Develop the skills for independent learning/study.Provide an opportunity for the student to draw upon family and community experience, so linking out of school and lesson experiences.Allow to complement the work carried out within lessons, giving the opportunity to extend knowledge and skills.Reinforce and consolidate the learning that takes place within the classroom through revision activities and practice questions. In The Down School we use the “Teams” platform to identify the home learning which has been set. Teachers, students, and parents and carers all have a part to play to ensure that learning done at home has a positive impact on progress.
